Other trade names: Zolpidem.
Zolpidem is a hypnotic medication intended for patients diagnosed with insomnia. If you ever had an allergic reaction to this medicine you are not supposed to take it again. The most typical symptoms of an allergic reaction include trouble breathing, hives, swelling of the throat, face, lips or tongue. In some rare cases people after taking zolpidem ate, drove cars and even walked in the street later having no recollections of these events. If you have a similar case do not take more of this medicine until you talk to your health care provider about it. Report to your health care provider any of the following health conditions if you have them: liver or kidney disease, bronchitis, asthma or any other lung disease, a history of mental illness or depression, alcohol or drug addiction, liver disease or kidney disease. Before you can take zolpidem certain tests may be required or your dosage will be adjusted to make sure the treatment is beneficial.

You are unlikely to be on a dosing schedule if you are taking zolpidem – so if you happen to miss a dose you can just take it. However, do not take this medicine if you are not going to sleep for 7-8 hours. Taking too much of zolpidem or combining it with other medications you have been prescribed can be fatal. Before you start the treatment with zolpidem, your doctor needs to know about any other medicines you are currently taking, including rifampin, antidepressants, itraconazole, chlorpromazine and a number of others. In fact, combining zolpidem with some medicines can be fatal. Make sure you tell your doctor if you are planning to start taking any new medications, or tell the doctor that is prescribing you any drug that you are already taking zolpidem. You may be recommended to stop taking it to avoid dangerous health effects.
